We're forever seeking inspiration for new designs, whether it be from magazines, shop windows, travel or artworks. With the 3rd collection of GINA & MAY umbrellas in development we thought we'd share with you a series of our favourite shots of umbrellas that have inspired us along the way. First up, umbrellas that have featured in artworks. More series to follow....

A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat. I just adore how the curved shape of the umbrellas are repeated throughout, from the women's bustles to the curl of the monkey's tail and the crook of the gentleman's cane. J'adore!

Here's two very poignant works from Banksy titled Umbrella & Boy and Girl with Umbrella, created in response to Hurricane Katrina and the associated levee failures.

Another clever artwork, this time from the Surrealist René Magritte, Hegel's Holiday, and a beautiful Renoir titled The Umbrellas.

Visiting Sculpture by the Sea 2011 on a wet day with our umbrellas in tow, we couldn't help but frame "Topsy" and "Carnivale" within Jane Gillling's quirky work Provenance (a gilt frame). A rather delightful portrait we think!

New Collection Update

The lively new range of rain umbrellas from GINA & MAY is due to arrive in store in approximately three weeks time. Expect new colourways such as luscious oranges, hot reds and bright yellow, as well as classic black and white. You can start browsing (or purchasing) from the full range when it's posted to the website within two weeks (by July 14). A second sneak peek is below!

GINA & MAY launches just in time for rain!

The GINA & MAY brand was officially launched on December 17 in owner/ creator, Gina Pollock’s, hometown of Gunnedah, N.S.W. The event arguably (!) brought some much needed rain to the drought stricken region as rainfall arrived the next morning and continued over the Christmas/ New Year period. Perhaps it was just a lovely coincidence!

The brand joined forces with local charity, Gunnedah PaediatRic and Maternity Support (PRAMS), with a percentage of sales from the launch benefitting the PRAMS organisation. The funds will go towards helping purchase specialised equipment, as well as refurbishing the paediatric ward. An umbrella packaged with an artwork by renowned Moree artist, Amanda Humphries, was also auctioned to spirited bidding.
